Welcome
You just got a Flop Ball and you're...
wondering what the heck it does? The short answer is... whatever you teach. Jump right in with the video or read more below.
The Flop Ball is a handsack that you toss, catch, and do tricks with, on the back of your hands. Think of it as one handed juggling. Except with just one, and on the back of your hands.
Why play with a handsack? Because it's great for your well-being.
Physical Well-being
Micro-breaks, standing up and moving for just 5-minutes, has shown to have tremendous benefits to your physical health. Low impact exercise gets your blood pumping, oxygenates the blood, and readies the body for action.
Emotional Well-being
Kinetic play (throwing, catching, and mastering tricks) is not about what you can do, but what you can't do yet. So attempting something new, dropping the ball, and picking up and trying again is a great practice for developing perseverance and resilience.
Intellectual Well-being
And all that dropping is also a great, low stakes space to hone your problem solving skills. What did you try? What was the result? What can you try differently next time?
Social Well-being
Passing a handsack around a group is a great way to get build bonds and get to know one another. Belonging cues such as eye contact, turn taking, proximity, and mimicry, inherent in kinetic play, signal to the brain that one is safe and part of the group.
Directions
There is no right or wrong way to play. So put your Flop Ball on the back of your hand and start by flipping it around. Start simple. Get curious. Find your flow!
Tips:
- be soft with your throws and catches
- practice different hands, heights and rotations
- work on things you can and can't do
- play a little bit every day
- drop a lot
Yay Flop!
